Some of my favourite songs that I remember plus songs from my youth. I guess most of you won't like the UK #1 hits made in England but I did at the time. I have provided these links to give you a break from reading my macros and sas tips. Harry Belafonte - Try to remember (The Fantasticks) 1966 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUaXzMrznwU Harry Belafonte - Scarlet Ribbons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCRrmDhI_Eg The Laughing Policeman - Charles Jolly / Penrose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI1nPd7hezM Windmill in old amsterdam (I saw a mouse) Ronnie Hilton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fg7w49UnGA Don't let the rain come down ---- Ronnie Hilton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaRXzeXlylU Dean Martin - Let it snow! That's the "Western" in "Country and Western". I don't know how these two styles got associated with each other as the styles are very different. Ghost Riders In the Sky - Frankie Laine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwAPa0qHmLo High Noon - Frankie Laine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWGsAAHGKq4 The "cute kid" image of Shirley Temple is made from combining her acting skills with her singing, creating an extremely expressive voice. This does not come naturally. It is the product of hard work (I used to train as a singer when I was a boy). Her achievement is a great one for such a young person. For me, that makes her one of the greatest singers of all time. Shirley Temple "Animal Crackers In My Soup" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNwFXLcrsbc Shirley Temple - On The Good Ship Lollipop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yR7ONpWlIE&feature=PlayList&p=577D0200362BBDB9&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=18 Judy Garland - Somewhere Over The Rainbow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0-um0pHTAg Deanna (Edna Mae) Durbin, age 13 - One Night of Love http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=C5wMS47-Wwg Judy Garland / Deanna Durbin - Every Sunday 1936 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbyPCZhzaE8 The unmatchable French singer Edith Piaf Tribute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZuJUOEuXz0 Chordettes - Lollipop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5mbwcrTGeQ Mr SandMan - The Chordettes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odcJ-vS22rI&NR=1 I Just Don't Know What to do With Myself - Dusty Springfield http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA48IL6bQQU Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7n0HJEMqjA UK #1 Hit 1964 CILLA BLACK "You're My World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqrl-rF7jYE UK #1 Hit 1964 CILLA BLACK "Anyone Who Had A Heart" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZury-SGt_g Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had A Heart 1963 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkyBMRulHK4 Dionne Warwick - Walk On By http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R-ZE-gFcBA Tom Waits was an unbelievably talented folk/jazz singer with his own style that strongly evoked mood and imagery in the listener's mind. This talent was strongest when he was younger and the songs below are all from this time. Tom Waits / The Heart Of Saturday Night http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=uz_LED36_OI Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues - 1977 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZmqbcBsTAw Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=ktCocv-bBDg&feature=related Tom Waits - Small Change http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=CKhGmD80xoI&feature=related Tom Waits - Romeo Is Bleeding http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=9p2kr5Ujg6g&feature=related Fields of Athenry - Paddy Reilly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQiia2PM_uI Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GbLwsCu1_Q The Lion Sleeps Tonight - The Tokens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9G90h-ay2U&feature=related Monster Mash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeZftK2kO6U Puff the Magic Dragon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7RHGYJ5fo0 WINDSOR DAVIS & DON ESTELLE '1975' - Whispering Grass..$ully http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAxmqUAfcvc No singing in the next one but good piano playing instead. Walter Liberace "Twelfth Street Rag" 1943 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCJ-qARb2M0&feature=related Engelbert Humperdinck - Release Me / The Last Waltz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RyMTSOrDbg I used to be a solo boy in a church choir. I practised the following song a lot but my voice wasn't good enough and I did not have the range to comfortably hit the top notes. I was 12 years old at the time and my voice was beginning to "go". My voice broke when I was early 13. It still gives me a sore throat just listening to this song. The Choirboys - O for the Wings of a Dove http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3DaJEle8bs&feature=related Angel Voices - O for the Wings of a Dove http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06-vs98dAoc&feature=related Here is a solo boy doing a modern song. Note the way he rolls his "r"s. All solo boys are taught to do that. It's because in a church, the sound of the "r" is lost when you project your voice at the ceiling so it has to be accentuated so that it can still be heard. "Walking In The Air." (Peter Auty) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR1Ln-ctn5E Here is Aled Jones singing this song both before and after his voice broke. It is so sad to me when such a gift of a male soprano voice is lost due to natural aging. There is a way of extending that voice into later life but I never fancied having the operation. Walking in the Air http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEWcOcX_AHQ&feature=related Here is the same song sung by a 7 year old female singer. Her vocal chords are immature but her voice control and breathing are good for one so young. Connie Talbot - Walking in the Air http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=mkP1ZGNsXKc&NR=1 Connie Talbot '6yrs old' (Over The Rainbow) http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn5L5U92_54&feature=related Some more for the girls 12 year old Julie Andrews - Polonaise from Mignon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV2-YGGn0y4&feature=related Taylor Ware yodelling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMTx2vd527w My favourite rock band is AC/DC with Bon Scott as singer. AC/DC - Let there be rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98I85ceICRM&NR=1 Another band I like very much is Hawkwind Hawkwind - Warriors at the Edge of Time http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=udmH8VKJc4Q Hawkwind - Reefer Madness http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=vwCuWSsPCZE Hawkwind - Steppenwolf http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=TGb17_gTXho Part 1 of 9 of the story of Hawkwind is below http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=qRw_rvrXQiQ Chrissie Hynde has to go somewhere so here will do. An exceptional singer. The Pretenders - I'll stand By You http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=J5pECaW-VMI&feature=related Many of the old songs I used to listen to listed in chronological order. For the early ones, I used to listen to them sat in front of the radiogram.
